Robbers break into Baviaanspoort prison

The armed men fled with firearms, a cellphone and a laptop.

Two armed men stormed guards at the Baviaanspoort Correctional Services in Pretoria during the early hours of Sunday, Rekord North reported.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Sam Shibambo said the men forced the security guards at about 12.50am on Sunday to open the gates.

“The security guards were forced to take the armed men to the safe where they were instructed to open it. Two firearms were taken out of the safe.”

According to Shibambo the armed men fled with firearms, a cellphone and a laptop in a green Volkswagen City Golf.

Police are investigating a case of business robbery.
